Stephen is an Associate Professor in Live Art + Spatial Practices, and Head of Drama. He is an artist-academic-curator whose work spans disciplines, and physical and social contexts. He is a core member of Wrights & Sites (formed 1997), four artist-researchers whose work is focused on peoples' relationships to places, cities and walking. They employ disrupted walking tactics as tools for playful debate, collaboration, intervention and spatial meaning-making. He is also a resident at the Kaleider studio in Exeter.
He is well connected to industry, for example as a Co-Director of REACT (Research & Enterprise in Arts & Creative Technology, 2012-16), one of four AHRC-funded Knowledge Exchange Hubs for the Creative Economy (a collaboration between UWE, Watershed, and the Universities of Bath, Bristol, Cardiff and Exeter).
