Elaine M Goodwin - Law

Elaine M Goodwin

Presented to the University in 1997

Location: Foyer, Amory Building, Streatham Campus

Exeter mosaicist and author Elaine M. Goodwin is well represented throughout the city. This piece represents balance through symmetry and shows the bird of peace spreading its protective wings over the open book of law. The muted colours accentuate the use of fool's gold (pyrites) and gold from South Africa.

This mosaic, with its sparkling silver and soft gold tesserae, has the following inscription; “Law is a means of protecting and securing balanced and peaceful relations between people”. It was commissioned by Mervin Bennun, Lecturer in Law at the University, who presented it to the Law Faculty on his retirement in 1997.
