In this lecture, Dr Peter Elmer, Senior Research Fellow in the Department of History, will focus on three events in the life of the city of Exeter between 1660 and 1680, a period which was dominated by political and religious division in the wake of the Restoration of Charles II.

One concerns a murder trial, another a ghost story, and the third a case of witchcraft. All three demostrate the continuing vitality of supernatural beliefs in England at this time, but equally importantly, all three are linked by the underlying influence of political factors shaping reaction to such events.

All are welcome to this free event - no need to book.
