With a background of the rising women’s movement for equality, in 1973, tennis World #1 Billie Jean King (Stone) faces off against retired ex-champion Bobby Riggs (Carell) claiming that no woman could ever beat him. While their on-court rivalry grows in anticipation for the ‘Battle of the Sexes’, both players struggle with off-court personal issues, with King not only fighting unequal pay, but coming to terms with her sexuality, and Riggs contending with his own gambling demons. With funny, yet remarkable performances from its cast, the societal issues brought about from the match can be seen to be still relevant today.

Tickets are bought on the night of the screening from our treasurer and willing assistant and are available from half an hour before the start of the film.
