The Long Table: An Open Discussion on Translating Identitiestalk Fri 27 Sep 2019, 13:00 – 15:00
Bradninch Place, Gandy Street
Exeter EX4 3LS
As part of Exeter University's Translation! Festival 2019, join art curator Alessandra Cianetti, academic translator Dr. Lucy Garnier, translations studies researcher Dr. Kombola Ramadhani Mussa and applied linguist Dr. Piotr Wegorowski for an interdisciplinary conversation about translation and identities.
The session will begin with multi-media, multi-language prompts by all four co-organisers as a starting point for a conversation with our audience exploring the role of translation in shaping, presenting, and understanding identities.
Everyone is welcome! The Long Table is a format for discussion created by artist Lois Weaver that uses the setting of a domestic table as a means to generate public conversation. Members of the audience will be able to join the table freely to participate in the conversation.
Tara Fatehi Irani’s performance to camera ‘Borderline Dialogue’ commissioned by performingborders | LIVE 2019 will be screened on a loop for the duration of the session.
This event is taking place at the Exeter Phoenix in Studio 1 on Friday 27th September between 1pm-2.45pm. It has been co-curated by Alessandra Cianetti, Lucy Garnier, Dr. Kombola Ramadhani Mussa, Dr. Piotr Wegorowski.
All Translation! Festival events are free and places offered on a first come, first served basis. See the full programme here.
