__About the work__

My work primarily involves gathering groups of people together and operating in confined spaces making photographs. Not something that is very advisable in the current climate! So what do you do when all your work for the foreseeable future is cancelled? Well you turn your shed into a camera of course!

In an effort to keep my practice evolving and be of some use to others, I have been making video tutorials on a variety of analogue photographic processes that people can follow at home. The below documents the building and operating of my shed camera, brings together a number of the processes I experiment with and shares some of the materials and approaches I use in my practice.

__About the artist__

Brendan Barry is a photographer, educator and camera builder whose creative photographic practice combines elements of construction, education, performance and participation. His work is mostly concerned with the transformation of different objects and environments into spaces capable of viewing and capturing a photographic image, using the mechanics of photography as a tool for exploration and collaboration.

__About the work__

*Comfort Stop * is a 9 minute short story written by Lucy Bell and performed by Kirsty Cox. It follows a grounded Devon tour guide who, confined to her flat for 12 weeks - with her ex-husband - starts to express her frustrations to an invisible audience, via guided tours under the bed and to the dark recesses of the tin cupboard.

__About the artist__

Lucy Bell is a Devon-based theatre maker. A writer on attachment to Bristol Old Vic (Open Sessions) and associate artist at Exeter Phoenix, Lucy is also artistic director of Documental Theatre, which makes theatre and audio inspired by found words. The idea for Comfort Stop grew out of reading transcripts of coach tour guides.

__About the work__

The hyperlocality in this commission is a Cornish boatyard: a scene of constant adaptation, and home to a motley crew living across 30+ vessels. When a new pay-what-you-feel shop opened on-site in response to COVID-19 self-isolation measures, a few members of Jam Collective began making preserves from surplus provisions to share with their neighbours, seeking food stories as an optional exchange.   

This improvised ‘jam’ of recorded sounds and conversation snippets provides an aural snapshot of a place where life unfolds around the tides.

Concoctions

__About the work__

Words were drawn from texts I encountered over the weeks of ‘lockdown’, and the images selected from my stack of collage materials. These were edited by erasure, translation, and recombination. The texts respond to their sources, but transpose associations to novel social and political behaviour. The impulse to respond creatively finds itself faced with arguments in favour of action, and a counter rationale for inaction. The poems emerged despite this. Contexts include the work of Louis Zukofsky, Hannah Weiner, OuLiPo, and Bernadette Mayer.

Mark Leahy is a Devon-based writer and artist. Live work includes ‘Breath Pieces’ (Tramway, 2018); ‘telling time’ (Jamboree, 2018); ’threaded insert’ (PAW, 2017). __About the work__

This 5-minute film throws a light on how the abnormality of lockdown seeps into home life. It’s normal for us to sit together for dinner, but there’s something uncanny about this new guest.

In isolation, with no friends or visitors coming into the home, we are thrown back onto our family rituals and resources to manifest the company we crave. Once upon a time we made Mary, then there was Sue. Using junk, paper and other materials we create Stacey to accompany us as we turn what is strange into a new normal.
