'Brave New World' is an artwork which considers facial recognition technology and its possible effects on the nature of protest. Protest is a way that together we can drive change. But will the use of live facial recognition technology stop people from protesting in the future?
As part of her Arts and Culture Urgency Commission, artist and printmaker Catherine Cartwright worked with six Devon residents who have taken part in protests. Together they made a portrait in the form of placard and then they were photographed with their portrait-placard in a place significant to their cause.
You can see this exhibition at Make Tank, 3-5 Paris Street, Exeter from 31 October to 22 November 2019. The exhibition is visible from the street.
